Ramis Rafay, PhD studentMy background studies are in Chemical Engineering (BEng and MSc.), and I have research experience in biotechnological processes such as microalgae culturing, anaerobic fermentation, and water treatment on both the wet-lab experimental and process modeling fronts.
My research interest lies in biological water treatment, which uses the action of microbial communities to remove pollutants from water. In my current doctoral studies, I am specifically interested in the means by which microbial communities in water treatment processes are assembled and maintained. I hope to uncover design and operational principles that can be used to influence the activity and presence of microbes that can help us meet sustainable development goals and provide access to safe, clean water for everyone. My hobbies include reading, listening to and playing music, cooking, and recently: jiujitsu and kickboxing! |
